HPA Delegation Visited Ethiopian Embassy in Ankara

On Thursday, November 28, 2024, the Hydropolitics Association delegation visited the Ethiopian Embassy in Ankara.

Hydropolitics Association President Dursun Yıldız, Vice President Dr. Hasan Hüseyin Doğan, and Hydropolitics Association Africa Desk Coordinator Yusuf Ali Mohamed participated in the visit.

The HPA  delegation met Ambassador  H.E. Adem Mohamed Mahmud and other embassy diplomats. At the beginning of the meeting, which lasted approximately 1 hour, HPA chairman Dursun Yıldız presented some information about the activities of the HPA- Hydropolitical Academy Center.

In his speech, SPD Chairman Yıldız also stated that Türkiye and Ethiopia have transboundary rivers and that they are the upstream countries where water originates from these transboundary river basins. Dursun Yıldız said that Turkey has completed many dams in the Tigris and Euphrates Basins within the scope of GAP, and Ethiopia also has many dams on the Nile and is about to complete the Great Renaissance Dam. For this reason, SPD President Yıldız stated that projects can be developed to exchange information and experience between the universities, NGOs and think tanks of our countries on issues such as hydropolitics, hydro diplomacy, water-based regional development projects and sustainable water management. He stated that the SPD Hydropolitics  Academy could contribute to the projects to be developed on this subject.

Ambassador (H.E.) Adem Mohamed Mahmud also said that relations between Ethiopia and Türkiye are very good and developing. He stated that developing water resources in the most efficient and peaceful way is of great importance for Ethiopia. Therefore, developing relations between the institutes, universities, and non-governmental organizations of both countries in this field will be very beneficial. We will contribute to the development of relations on this issue.
