The opening meeting of the "Project for Supporting Resilience and Adaptation to Climate Change through Water Loss Prevention", of which Istanbul Minerals and Metals Exporters' Associations (İMMİB) is the applicant and coordinator and Water Policy Association (SPD) is the project co-applicant, will be held on 10 May 2024 in Istanbul Zeytinburnu. It was held at Novotel. Local and foreign press representatives also watched the meeting, which was broadcast live on İMMİB's YouTube channel.

 

The opening meeting, attended by ministry representatives, non-governmental organization managers, academicians, public institution managers, managers and experts from industrial organizations and related companies, was held according to the following program.

 

 

 

The meeting was attended by Dr Hasan Hüseyin Doğan, the 2nd Chairman of the Board of Directors from the Hydropolitics  Association, and Istanbul representative Civil Eng. Hüseyin Özdemir, SPD Member, former Deputy General Manager of DSI. and Istanbul Regional Manager Cüneyt Gerek attended. 

 

At the opening meeting, Hydropolitics  Association President Dursun Yıldız made a presentation on the Status of Water Efficiency in Türkiye  and Türkiye’s Water Management System.

 

 The meeting, which took place at Istanbul Novotel Zeytinburnu on May 10, 2024, was organized according to the following program.

At the meeting, where the participants were very interested and contributed to the program with their questions and opinions, the opening speeches were made by İMMİB Deputy Secretary General Coşkun KIRLIOĞLU, İKMİB Board Member Halit Süha Taşpolatoğlu, and İMİB Accounting Member Vedat ÖKSÜZ.

In his presentation, Dursun Yıldız talked about sectoral water use, studies on water use in industry, sectors with high water saving potential in the industry, the situation of our groundwater in terms of quantity and quality, water potential projection in our basins, the effect of climate change on water resources, the importance of data supply and data security in the project, our water management. and gave information on the draft water law.

Dursun Yıldız also talked about the originality of the project;

• Increasing risk of climate change,

• In our region where water must be protected in terms of quality and quantity,

• In sectors with high water-saving potential in terms of quantity and money 

• On an issue that will provide national and international benefits for our country and industrial sector.

A very useful project work is starting. said

Dursun Yıldız said, “This project will be a continuation of previously initiated projects in this field and will provide a very valuable database infrastructure for future projects.” He concluded his words by saying

“It is predicted that the expected increase in industrial water consumption may be a serious problem for our country in the near future due to the impact of climate change on water resources and other pressures. Applications based on water efficiency have become even more important, especially in water-intensive sectors such as food manufacturing, textile manufacturing and the production of chemicals. . Creating a healthy database and determining the best techniques that can be applied for water efficiency through the survey to be conducted with 350 companies in this project will be very beneficial for our industry and our country. “

 

Then, Ömer Öztürk, an expert from the Climate Change Directorate of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, talked about the projects supported by the ministry and explained the work done on adaptation to climate change.

In the project introduction part of the program, Ece Ortak from İMMİB Project coordination gave information about the purpose, objectives and expected benefits of the project.

Many participants contributed to the event with their questions and explanations in the question and answer section of the program.

In this episode, the 2nd Chairman of the Board of Directors from the Water Policy Association, Dr. Hasan Hüseyin Doğan, SPD Member, former Deputy General Manager of DSI. and Istanbul Regional Manager Cüneyt Gerek  also made explanations and evaluations regarding the questions asked.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

 

Promoting Resilience and Adaptation to Climate Change by Preventing Water Lost

"Project for Supporting Resilience and Adaptation to Climate Change through Preventing Water Loss", of which Istanbul Minerals and Metals Exporters' Associations (İMMİB) is the applicant and coordinator, T.R. It is supported by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change. This project aims to contribute to our country's climate change adaptation goal by preventing water loss and raising awareness about water management. The co-applicant of the project is the Hydropolitics  Association.

The project duration is 18 months

 

The aim of the project is basically to raise awareness about water management in the industry. In this context, there are two main target groups: chemicals and chemical products sub-sectors and non-metallic mineral products. The general goal is to improve capacity and adaptation to climate change by reducing water loss in relevant manufacturing industries in the Marmara Region and raising awareness about efficient water management.

The main activities of the project are as follows:

• Preparing climate change analyzes specific to relevant sectors,

• Developing a survey on companies' water usage and a water usage analysis report,

• Researching and disseminating exemplary practices in water management, conducting preliminary on-site visits and field visits to some of the exemplary practices and preparing review reports on them,

• Organizing online workshops focusing on water saving and circularity,

• Preparing documentaries and booklets using the information obtained from the analyzes and visits,

• Preparation of an Action Plan to be presented at the Ministry level in line with all the information and analysis obtained throughout the project.
