How Artificial Intelligence Is Solving The World Water Crisis
Source: Transcend Water
What better way, than on World Water Day, to share news that will revolutionize the water industry!
The population on Earth is rapidly growing and the demand for clean water grows with it. According to a U.N. report, global water demand is expected to grow by 50% by 2030. This puts pressure on both nature and on the water industry to quickly adapt. The importance of advocating for the sustainable management of freshwater resources is more important than ever.
Transcend Design Generator (TDG) was born out of a need and vision. The ’need’ component came from the global trends we see in any development of a water project… but more specifically, wastewater treatment plants.
The creation of a wastewater treatment plant is a labor-intensive process. The process can take years of planning and design work until construction is finished. In fact, just one preliminary engineering package can take upwards of 200 hours to complete! Engineering firms and their engineers are under a tremendous amount of pressure to speed up this process and make it more efficient.
There’s now a light at the end of the tunnel.
Artificial intelligence and software automation have come so far in the last few years. Take medicine, for example, where doctors now perform surgeries and save lives using artificial intelligence and automation. What if these advances in artificial intelligence and automation could be applied to the water sector?
What if wastewater engineers could create a preliminary design for multiple treatment technologies - in minutes - to find the most sustainable solution? What if engineers now had time to evaluate alternatives, instead of focused on copy-pasting from previous projects?
This is the vision of Transcend. Our automated design platform, the Transcend Design Generator (TDG), makes this a reality.
Thousands of greenfield designs have already been created by TDG partners from all over the world. But we didn’t stop there.
TDG offers Engineers, EPC professionals, Technology providers, Real Estate Developers, and Utility Companies preliminary designs for water facilities in just 8 hours, including a 365-day simulation with diurnal flow. This allows the user to take a real-time analytical approach to choose the best design, as opposed to the traditional wait time of two weeks or more for each iteration. With a user-friendly interface and easy access website, clients have the ability to run and review unlimited scenarios with an 8-hour turnaround time and select the most suitable design for their requirements.
By giving the end-user more options, it allows them to select the best solution at the beginning of the process, without having to burn thousands of engineering hours on creating iterations to find the best design. It also enables clients to bring new technologies and approaches to the market faster. In comparing them to conventional methods, we’re giving the user the cost/benefit analysis of more sustainable and environmentally friendly approaches. The outputs are in native form used as the foundation for detailed design, reducing the man-hours and time requirement for the project cycle, and offering global consistency and quality control in all design documents.
Engineers using TDG wanted to utilize the software to design wastewater facility upgrades as well. Challenge accepted!
